The Prisons and Probation Ombudsman (PPO) investigates complaints in England and Wales from prisoners, those on probation, and those held in immigration removal centres. Established in 1994, the PPO has also been responsible since April 2004 for investigating all deaths of prisoners and residents of probation hostels and immigration detention accommodation.
