Communities and Local Government: Housing
The Housing section of the (Department for) Communities and Local Government web site outlines the roles and responsibilities of local authorities on housing and includes: key legislation; circulars and official letters; consultation and policy documents; guidance on social housing and homelessness assistance; information on house purchase and sale (including Home Information Packs); as well as information for private landlords and tenants. There are links where relevant to associated sites, including the Home Information Packs sections of the government's Business Link and Directgov sites. Council for Licensed Conveyancers
The Council for Licensed Conveyancers (CLC) is the regulatory body for licensed conveyancers. Its web site is divided into two main areas - "Visitors" and "Professionals". "Visitors" includes a directory of licensed conveyancers, searchable by name or location; a guide to professional conduct; and details of the complaints procedure. "Professionals" includes information on the procedure for qualifying as a licensed conveyancer, the CLC's Rules, and Practice Notes.

Crofters Commission
The Crofters Commission acts as an impartial tribunal in the regulation of crofting, a form of landholding unique to the Highlands and Islands of Scotland. The "Forms and Leaflets" division of its web site includes the Crofters (Scotland) Act 1993 as amended by the Crofting Reform etc Act 2007, transcripts of decisions by the Land Court on Decrofting Appeals, 1980 onwards, code of conduct for board members and notes of assessors' meetings. |

Housing Ombudsman Service
The Housing Ombudsman Service, formerly known as the Independent Housing Ombudsman, deals with complaints against landlords and agents, and other housing disputes. All social landlords (housing associations) registered in England are members of the scheme, together with certain private landlords and management agents. There are separate "Complainants and Advisers" and "Landlords and Agents" sections, both with extensive downloadable information, reports and forms.

Land Registry
The Land Registry administers the land registration system throughout England and Wales. LEASE is the Leasehold Advisory Service, an independent advice agency funded by Government grant. Ombudsman Services: Property, formerly known as the Surveyors Ombudsman Service, provides a free and independent complaints handling service for customers of chartered surveying firms, surveyors, estate agents, residential managing agents and other property professionals, provided they are members. The site provides contact details and information relating to the complaints procedure and investigation process. There are summaries of decisions January 2009 onwards, and annual reports (also including summaries of decisions) 2009 onwards.

The site's "Property Law Library" contains articles, case summaries, legislation and other material, some with links to original sources. There is also a Monthly Update, the content of which is consolidated into the Property Law Library, and an annotated links section. Full access to all of the site content is available on subscription to members only.

The Property Litigation Association (PLA) is an organisation for professionals specialising in commercial, residential and agricultural property litigation. The "Library" section of its web site includes brief notes of recent property cases. There is also a review of the year's significant cases, entitled "Case Law Kaleidoscope", in each collection of annual PLA Conference Papers from 2003 onwards.

The Property Ombudsman (TPO) (known before 1 May 2009 as the Ombudsman for Estate Agents) provides an independent service for dealing with disputes between member estate agencies and customers who are buying and selling residential property in the UK. The site has TPO's codes of practice for residential estate agents and for letting agents, summaries of recent cases, recent annual reports, and information and guidance on the complaint procedure.

Registers of Scotland
Registers of Scotland is an executive agency of the Scottish Government responsible for compiling and maintaining registers relating to property and other legal documents. The chief registers are the Land Register of Scotland and the Register of Sasines. The site provides access to the agency's web-based services, which are chargeable. There is a wealth of free information available, including many information leaflets, reports and the compendious Registration of Title Practice Book.

Residential Property Tribunal Service
The Residential Property Tribunal Service (RPTS) is the umbrella organisation for the five regional offices known as Rent Assessment Panels, which settle disputes in England involving private rented and leasehold property, through Rent Assessment Committees, Leasehold Valuation Tribunals and Residential Property Tribunals. The site includes guidance notes, forms, information on appeals and on complaints procedures, and decisions and reasons documents made by Rent Assessment Committees and Leasehold Valuation Tribunals from 1 January 2003.

Service Charges in Commercial Property - A Code of Practice
The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) has introduced a new official code of practice for service charges in commercial property. There are four separate versions - for England and Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Ireland. This site provides the texts of all four codes, together with supplementary information papers, details of the new standard industry cost code headings for service charges, and information on the RICS dispute resolution service.

Upper Tribunal (Lands Chamber)
The Lands Tribunal, as it is still commonly referred to, was transferred into the Lands Chamber of the Upper Tribunal on 1 June 2009. It is an independent judicial body set up to resolve certain kinds of dispute about land in England and Wales. The site has information about the Tribunal's jurisdictions and procedure; practice directions; forms and guidance; the Lands Tribunal Rules 1996 as amended; and the Upper Tribunal (Lands Chamber) Fees Order 2009.
