RCJ and Rolls Building courts

This page on the government's Justice portal site allows access to the full text of the various official guides to court procedure, including the Bankruptcy Court Guide, Chancery Guide, Queen's Bench Guide, Admiralty & Commercial Courts Guide, Supreme Court Costs Office Guide, and a Guide to Commencing Proceedings in the Court of Appeal Criminal Division. These can be found via the page for the appropriate court. A selection of court rules, practice directions, forms, and information leaflets is also available for each court.

Redfern Inquiry

An inquiry into human tissue analysis in UK nuclear facilities was announced by the government on 18 April 2007 and conducted by Michael Redfern QC. Documents on the inquiry's site, now archived by the National Archives, include terms of reference and the final report, which was delivered to Parliament on 16 November 2010.

Reducing Drugs Misuse and Dependence

This section of the gov.uk portal gives details of government policies and initiatives on drugs, with links to other drugs-related sites. It contains information about drug laws and classifications, drugs licensing, and the work of the Advisory Council for the Misuse of Drugs.

Refugee Caselaw Site

Site produced by the University of Michigan in conjunction with LEXIS-NEXIS, containing selected court decisions (full text pdf) relating to the international status and treatment of refugees from a number of jurisdictions around the world. Cases can be searched, or browsed by country. Registration enables you to save searches and sign up for alerts. There is also a useful set of links to related refugee law sites.

Refugee Law Reader

The refugee law reader: cases, documents and materials (6th edition, 2011), published by the Hungarian Helsinki Committee and funded by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and the European Refugee Fund, is intended to serve as a "model curriculum" for the study of international refugee law. Aimed at professors, lawyers, advocates and students, the reader contains over 700 documents and materials. Materials include key legal texts, instruments and academic commentary.

Refworld

The UN Refugee Agency's Refworld web site provides information necessary for taking decisions on refugee status. The site includes reports on country status; a legal documents collection, including legislation and case law; and thematic reports. Documents can be browsed by topic, publisher or document type.

Regional News Network

This service provides a single point of access to news releases and information from government departments, agencies and non-departmental public bodies. Formerly known as the News Distribution Service for Government and the Public Sector, and forming part of the defunct Central Office of Information (COI), it is now produced by the Cabinet Office.

Registered Homes Tribunal

The Registered Homes Tribunal heard appeals relating to the registration of nursing homes, care homes and children's homes prior to the establishment of what is now known as the First-tier Tribunal (Care Standards). This is a database of its decisions 1985-2004 on the Tribunals Judiciary web site.

Registers of Scotland

Registers of Scotland (RoS) is an executive agency of the Scottish Government responsible for compiling and maintaining registers relating to property and other legal documents. The chief registers are the Land Register of Scotland and the Register of Sasines. The site provides access to RoS's web-based services, which are chargeable. There is a wealth of free information available, including information leaflets, reports and the compendious Registration of Title Practice Book.

Regnal Years of English Sovereigns

Until 1962 the regnal year in which a statute was passed formed an essential part of its citation. This detailed table gives precise dates of all English regnal years 1066-1962. The text is from Sweet & Maxwell's Guide to law reports and statutes, 4th edition, 1962, reproduced as a pdf document here on the web site of Harvard Law School Library.

Regulation and Quality Improvement Authority

The Regulation and Quality Improvement Authority (RQIA) is the independent health and social care services regulator for Northern Ireland. Its site provides links to relevant legislation on the Legislation.gov.uk site, including the Health and Personal Social Services (Quality, Improvement and Regulation) (Northern Ireland) Order 2003, under which RQIA was established in 2005.

Regulatory Law

This site provides articles, brief case notes, practical guidance and links for practitioners concerned with regulatory law, professional conduct and disciplinary procedure. It is based on and updates Disciplinary and regulatory proceedings (4th to 6th editions, Jordans, 2006 to 2011) by Brian Harris and Andrew Carnes, barristers of 4-5 Gray's Inn Square, London.

Religion and Law Consortium

A fully searchable collection of treaties, legislation, judicial decisions and other documents relating to religion and law from jurisdictions worldwide is provided by this site, which is maintained by the Religion and Law Consortium, a group of academic institutions in the US and Europe, and hosted by the International Center for Law and Religion Studies at Brigham Young University. 

Religion Law UK

Neil Addison, a barrister based in the North-West of England, provides the information on this site. It includes materials and articles relating to religion and the law, primarily in England and Wales but also with some information relating to other jurisdictions. The site also includes a link to his Religion Law Blog which has comments on cases and religion law issues.

Religious Legal Systems

The full title of this research guide, published July 2009 on the GlobaLex web site, is Religious Legal Systems in Comparative Law: A Guide to Introductory Research. It covers internet resources, books and articles. The author is Marylin Johnson Raisch, Librarian for International and Foreign Law at the John Wolff International and Comparative Law Library of the Georgetown Law Center. An earlier version published February 2006 is also available.

Removals Industry Ombudsman Scheme

This scheme provides the removals industry with an independent service to resolve disputes between member companies and their clients, if the normal complaints procedure has not produced a satisfactory conclusion. The site has information, contact details, a downloadable complaint form, and the latest annual report.

Reprieve

Online resource on capital punishment maintained by Reprieve, the London based organisation founded by anti-capital punishment lawyer Clive Stafford Smith. The site includes extensive links, case histories, reports, articles, press releases and the organisation's online journal, "Reprieve Update".

Research Guide on International Health Law

This research guide published on the GlobaLex site comprises mainly links - to institutions, treaties and other documents - relating to international health law, together with a selected bibliography of books and articles. It was prepared by Chenglin Liu of the O'Quinn Law Library at the University of Houston. This is an updated version of January/February 2010: the original guide dated August 2006 is also available.

Researching Australian Law

This is a narrative guide to Australian legal research, written by law librarians Nicholas Pengelley and Sue Milne and published on the LLRX.com site March 2009. It includes hypertext links to the sources mentioned.

Researching International Marine Environmental Law

This research guide, published on the GlobaLex web site, is by Arundhati Ashok Satkalmi, Reference and Documents Research Librarian at the Rittenberg Law Library of St. John's University School of Law, New York. The current version was published January/February 2010, and includes a link to the original version published December 2005.

Researching South African Law

Originally written by Amanda Barratt and Pamela Snyman, both of the University of Cape Town Law Library, this is a narrative account of the South African legal system and legal research, with links to the sources mentioned. A revised edition was published March 2005, and the latest update, by Redson Kapindu, was published here on the GlobaLex site March 2010.

Researching the Legal Aspects of Asylum Seekers and Refugees in Australia, Canada and the United Kingdom

A research guide by Colin Fong, law lecturer at the University of Technology, Sydney and the University of New South Wales and published on GlobaLex in  November 2007. The guide is intended to assist researchers in finding legal information on asylum seekers and refugees in Australia, Canada and the United Kingdom, highlighting useful print and online sources.

Residential Institutions Redress Board

The Redress Board was set up under the Residential Institutions Redress Act 2002 to make fair and reasonable awards to persons who, as children, were abused while resident in Irish industrial schools, reformatories and other institutions subject to state regulation or inspection. Information on the site includes newsletters, annual reports, details of application and hearing procedures, and FAQs. The 2002 Act and Regulations are available to download, as is the Compensation Advisory Committee's 2002 report Towards Redress and Recovery ("the Ryan Report").

Residential Property Tribunal

The Residential Property Tribunal is the umbrella organisation for the five regional offices known as Rent Assessment Panels, which settle disputes in England involving private rented and leasehold property, through Rent Assessment Committees, Leasehold Valuation Tribunals and Residential Property Tribunals. It transferred into Her Majesty's Courts and Tribunals Service on 1 July 2011. Accessible here via the Justice web portal are guidance notes, forms, information on appeals and on complaints procedures, and decisions and reasons documents made by Rent Assessment Committees and Leasehold Valuation Tribunals from 1 January 2005.

Restitution and Unjust Enrichment Legal Resources

This comprehensive site for restitution law resources is produced by Professor Steve Hedley of University College Cork. It has full text judgments in restitution cases from England and Wales 1990 onwards, some as links to other sites and others as documents on the site. There are also links to cases and legislation from many other jurisdictions, links to journal articles and abstracts, links to blog posts, and a general introduction to the subject.

Reuters UK

Web site of Reuters' news agency in the UK, providing extensive business and financial news in addition to general national and world news. Registration (free of charge) is required for some sections of the site.

Revenue

Revenue - more formally the Office of the Revenue Commissioners - is the Irish government agency responsible for customs, excise, taxation and related matters. Under the "Taxes & Duties" tab there is information on specific taxes and duties, with links to leaflets, guides and other relevant material. Other site sections include "Tax Practitioners", which has links to tax briefings, codes of practice, tax treaties and legislation.

Review of Civil Litigation Costs

Lord Justice Jackson was appointed by the Master of the Rolls in November 2008 to lead a fundamental review of the costs of civil litigation in England and Wales, and to make recommendations. His preliminary report was published 8 May 2009 and his final report 14 January 2010. Both may be downloaded from this section of the Judiciary of England and Wales and Tribunals Judiciary web site. Other content includes consultation responses and information on implementation of the review.

Review of Intelligence on Weapons of Mass Destruction

A review of intelligence on weapons of mass destruction programmes in countries of concern, particularly intelligence on Iraqi WMD up to March 2003, was conducted in 2004 by Lord Butler and four other Privy Counsellors. The full text of the Review's report is available here on TSO's Official Documents site.

Review of Tribunals

Sir Andrew Leggatt's Review of Tribunals made recommendations which led to the creation of the Tribunals Service in 2006. The Review's web site, now archived by the National Archives, includes the full text of the report Tribunals for Users - One System, One Service published August 2001.

Road Traffic Devices: Guidance for Police and Manufacturers

This is a section of the GOV.UK web site providing information on road traffic devices, such as breath testing devices, drug testing devices, speed cameras and immobilisation devices. There are links to various documents and lists of devices.

Robert Hamill Inquiry

Inquiry, chaired by Sir Edwin Jowitt, into the death of Robert Hamill, which followed an incident in Portadown, Northern Ireland, on 27 April 1997. Site content includes press notices, timetables, transcripts and evidence. Public hearings were completed in December 2009. The Inquiry's report was completed in February 2011 and will be published once legal proceedings against three individuals have been concluded. .

Roman Law Resources

Information on the sources, literature and teaching of Roman law, with extensive annotated links. The site is edited by Professor Ernest Metzger of the University of Glasgow School of Law.

Roman Numerals

On the web site of the Nova Roma society, this page provides a converter from Roman numerals to arabic and vice versa, together with a brief explanation of how the Roman numbering system works.

Rosemary Nelson Inquiry

Inquiry, chaired by Sir Michael Morland, into the circumstances which led to the murder of the lawyer Rosemary Nelson in Lurgan, Northern Ireland, in March 1999, and into the police investigation which followed it. Documentation on the site, now archived by the National Archives, includes timetables, press notices, transcripts, evidence, and procedural updates. The Inquiry's report was published on 23 May 2011 and is accessible via a link to the Stationery Office's Official Documents site.

Routledge Law

This site features academic law books and journals published by Routledge, an imprint of the Taylor & Francis Group which is a division within Informa plc. Recently published titles are listed and there is a browse by subject option and a search and order facility. Current hard copy catalogues are available under the Resources tab either to browse online or to download.

Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons

The Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) is the regulatory body for veterinary surgeons in the UK, with statutory responsibilities set out in the Veterinary Surgeons Act 1966. The text of the Act is downloadable, and there is information and advice on recent legislative changes of relevance to veterinary surgeons. The Guide to Professional Conduct is reproduced in full, and there is a searchable register of members. Information on the complaints procedure and details of disciplinary proceedings, including findings and judgments 2004 onwards, are to be found in the site's Complaints section.

Royal Court of Guernsey

The Royal Court is responsible for the administration of justice and the provision of judicial, parliamentary and civic services in Guernsey. Its web site provides information on Guernsey's legal system, judiciary and courts, including the Magistrate's Court and the Guernsey Court of Appeal as well as the Royal Court itself. The Constitution section includes information on the States of Deliberation, Guernsey's parliament, which is known less formally as the States of Guernsey.

Royal Court of Jersey

The Royal Court of Jersey is the principal court on the island. It hears both civil and criminal cases and exercises a supervisory jurisdiction over the lower courts. Its web site has information relating to its role, procedures and judiciary; news (with an archive going back to October 2008); and a "Library" section which includes a glossary, FAQs and links.

Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors: Regulation UK

The functions of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) include the regulation of property professionals and surveyors in the UK. This section of the RICS site provides information on the regulatory framework, including the rules of conduct for firms and members and details of recent and forthcoming disciplinary panel hearings.

Royal Liverpool Children's Inquiry

An Inquiry Panel, chaired by Michael Redfern QC, was appointed in December 1999 to investigate the removal, retention and disposal of human organs and tissues following post mortem examination at the Royal Liverpool Children's Hospital (Alder Hey Children's Hospital). Both the Summary and Recommendations and the full report of the Inquiry, published in January 2001, may be downloaded from this site.
